The August 12-14, 2021 3 Day/2 Night Mindfulness Through Tectonic Forgiveness Retreat at Sorensen Ranch in Clover Valley Nevada is an all-inclusive retreat that focuses on the stillness, skills, and principles of mindfulness that lead to happiness and well-being, with an additional focus of helping you to walk through the upheaval and internal landscape change that is forgiveness.
In her book “The How of Happiness”, Sonja Lyubomirsky writes:
“Psychologists who study forgiveness use a definition that differs a bit from that of the average person on the street. It’s important to understand what they mean by it and what they don’t mean by it. Forgiveness is not reconciliation—that is, it does not necessarily involve the reestablishment of the relationship with the transgressor. Nor is it equivalent to pardon, which is a legal term and is something usually accomplished within the justice system, or condoning, which implies justifying, minimizing, or tolerating the victimization or hurt, thus eliminating the need for forgiveness entirely. Forgiveness does not mean excusing, which offers extenuating circumstances or a “good reason” (i.e., “He did it when he was high on drugs”) or denial of harm, which connotes the Freudian concept of repression, or an unwillingness to accept what had occurred. Finally, “forgive and forget” is a misnomer, inasmuch as forgiving does not involve a decaying of memory for the hurt. Indeed, truly forgiving someone involves contemplating the injury at some length while forgetting the injury would make that process rather difficult. How, then, do you know if you’ve forgiven someone? It’s when you have experienced a shift in thinking, such that your desire to harm that person has decreased and your desire to do him good (or to benefit your relationship) has increased.”
Lyubomirsky, Sonja. The How of Happiness (pp. 170-171). Penguin Publishing Group. Kindle Edition.
Sometimes in our efforts to feel okay we make the mistake of pretending that everything is okay. But that simply isn’t accurate. Some things are objectively NOT okay. It’s good to recognize that and to make a space for things to not be okay while you are healing. It’s also good to be real through the process. Forgiveness is not pretense. It is a life-shifting, deeply powerful practice that has the capacity to alter your perception of reality, learn profound truth, and move forward to a fulfilling life.
Our Wild Sacred Silence Mindfulness Through Tectonic Forgiveness Retreat will walk you through the geography of forgiveness. It is an opportunity to recognize who you are, where you stand, and how that knowledge relates to others in practices that offer you an opportunity to experience the peace and well-being you need.
The mindfulness practices we focus on can help to promote personal peace and happiness. These practices, when paired with emotional resilience skills and dedicated time spent connecting emotions, thoughts, and physical actions, offer a much-needed respite to anyone who feels the need to slow down, savor life, and take a deep breath in preparation for moving forward towards personal goals.
